Minister Says MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defence official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks posed by Chinese-made cars, while staff have been told to avoid talking about classified information in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese cars.

He stated that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security situation highlights the importance of strong measures and vigilance in every aspects of official activities, including transport usage to communication practices.
