The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

• You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
• Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
