The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
